Professional Photographs to Market Your Business?
The first question we asked ourselves as we started on the process of developing what is now Photographic Web Presence Marketing was: What is the missing marketing piece that we can leverage to help businesses present themselves to a 21st Century world? The vast majority of the physical locations for the businesses that exist today originated in the 20th Century. This is before the Age of Information kicked into high gear, the proliferation of powerful smart phones and the common place Googling of everything. Businesses relied on legacy media advertising, billboards, catalogs, word of mouth and customer loyalty to move their businesses forward and sell their products or services. Most business owners and managers understand the importance of having their physical location (building and grounds) look inviting to anyone who might travel there to shop. But as the new world of Google Maps, with smart phones in the hands of millions of customers dawned, many owners/managers are completely unaware of what their Google profile pictures look like. For the most part, their location pictures on Google Maps, on their social media and their websites usually fall into three categories; 1. It's all we had to put up at the time 2. Not sure what we have up there right now 3. Those images are old and need to be replaced. Many owner/managers have a 20th Century mindset when it comes to the importance of what their business looks like to potential customers who are searching on line for a place to purchase a good or a service. With legacy advertising no longer reaching the younger people, the options for bringing them into locations lie in online outreach and location presentation.
As architectural photographers, we already knew how important and how powerful professional photographs were in the context of buying and selling houses. Professional photographs can make or break the on-line presentation and selling power of a home, especially in the early stages of the listing on Zillow, Trulia or Real Estate.com. So it seemed to make sense to us that powerful high definition photographs would also assist businesses in their online presentation. We are a visual culture. Nearly everyone has a very good camera available to them in their smart phones. We collectively take and share millions of photographs every day. Photographs have become a powerful alternative form of communication that enhances the context of any story. Research in this area really tells us a lot when it comes to the importance of images in communicating with potential customers. For example, articles containing relevant images have 94 percent more total views than articles without images. Having high quality images available in search platforms (Google, Yahoo, etc.) gives a dramatic advantage over other businesses (when searching 60% of consumers are more likely to consider or contact a business with an image that shows up on a local search). In terms of social media, Facebook posts with the highest engagement rates have photographs associated with them.
So it is very well established that photographs communicate and help sell, but what about the quality of the photographs? Does the quality of the photograph assist in selling, generating interest or multiplying views? Will a professionally executed and edited photograph of a business building make a difference? Well, we found the answer to this by creating for our clients, unusual and powerful photographs of the outside and the inside of their locations. Not only did our customers love and use our photographs on their websites and in their social media, but we started to get thousands of Google Maps views. For one of our first business clients we shot a high definition photograph of the outside of a restaurant. Within less than two weeks, we had over 25000 Google Maps views on this photograph. One year later this photograph had over 100,000 views! So yes, high quality and sometimes unusual photography gets the attention of people in a big way. For a business, this means exposure and the possibility of more customers walking through their doors.
So we immediately recognized the power of high definition photographs for our clients and for our Web Presence Photographic Marketing Program. We now include high definition photographs of our clients facilities in all of our packages. They can choose between a day image or a dusk photograph. We make sure that every picture we take of a store/building presents it in best possible way. You can see a few of our business location photographs here.
